The competition to host the 2014 Olympic Games was started among seven cities: Jaca of Spain, Almaty of Kazakhstan, Sofia of Bulgaria, Borjomi of Georgia, Sochi of Russia, Saltzburg of Austria and Pyeongchang of South Korea.
In June 2006 Jacques Rogge, the President of IOC, announced that the committee shortlisted three sub-winners out of seven: Sochi, Salztburg and Pyeongchang.
Sochi Presentation 2014
The 119th session of IOC was helf in Guatemala on 4th July. The numerous Russian delegation (80 members) made the final presentation to become the host of 2014 Winter Games. In order to transport all required equipment weighing over 60 tons the AN-124 Ruslan heavy long-range transport aircraft had to be used.

The presentation was a great success. It was began by the captain, President Putin, who addressed the audience in English ad French. Videos were demonstrated to explain the Olympic infrastructure and construction sites, and leading Russian sport personalities made their presentations.
